Bester Generación closes a ‘project finance’ amounting to GBP 23 million for the construction of a combined heat and power plant (CHP), based on biomass.

Bester Generación, a company dedicated to the development, engineering, construction, operations and maintenance of renewable energy infrastructures, received funding for a 4.8 MWe biomass plant located in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, United Kingdom, and immediately proceeded to start construction with the laying of the first stone ceremony on 3rd November, 2014.

Antonio Macías Sánchez, CEO of Bester Generación, emphasized that “the day of the laying of the foundation stone of the biomass power plant Wellingborough gave me a great satisfaction, as the road has been long and hard, but it is now a reality, and we will move as quickly as possible to begin operating in early 2016”.

The plant will generate 4.8 megawatts of electricity and will have a production capacity of about 38,400 MWh/year, enough to power 12,800 homes, reducing emissions of greenhouse gases by approximately 9,500 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.

Bester Generación acts as promoter and EPC contractor of this project, turnkey execution of construction works, a Cogeneration project which uses some of the energy in processes external to the plant, providing heat, and other heat producing electricity using a steam turbine of 4.8 MWe.

The construction period is expected to last 12 months, during which many direct jobs will be created in the area.

With this project, Bester Generación continues increasing its number of renewable energy assets in the UK, adding to its extensive portfolio of both photovoltaic and biomass projects in this country, expecting to be funded, as are other projects under development in the Nordic countries, Central and South America.
